At a glance

Premature ejaculation (PE) is the most common sexual medical condition, affecting up to one in five Irish men at some stage in their lives.

Symptoms

The treatment is likely to be of benefit if all of the following apply to you-

  • The time to ejaculation after penetration is less than two minutes
  • Ejaculation occurs with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration and before the patient wishes
  • Marked personal distress or interpersonal difficulty as a consequence of premature ejaculation
  • Poor control over ejaculation
  • A history of premature ejaculation in the majority of intercourse attempts over the past 6 months

Treatments

We offer treatment of PE for men aged 18 to 64 years, which works by delaying ejaculation and increasing control.

Tablets are taken 1-3 hours before intercourse as an on-demand treatment before anticipated sexual activity.

Approximately one in three men report a significant response to the treatment. For men with an average time to ejaculation of 1 minute, the time to ejaculation usually increases to approx. 3.1 minutes with a 30mg dose, and 3.6 minutes with a 60mg dose. There is however an increase in side effect risk with the higher dose.
